Endless Legends and Endless Space! I have played my fair share of both Grand Strategy and 4X strategy in particular. Everything from Civilization to Galactic Civilizations. It has been a genre that I have gotten a lot of miles from. Very fun to say the least. So it was with great anticipation that I bought Endless Space and Endless Legends. I have not regretted it for one minute. Absolutely not the most typical 4X experience. I am going to highlight the two biggest things the Endless games do better or differently than your average 4X. First thing is Quests. Not unheard of for 4X or Strategy games to have quests. Usually though they are more tutorial like than anything. Even when they expand further than that they usually are a tiny feature of the gameplay. Not in Endless. You get Faction specific quests as well as numerous other quest lines. Including Global quests that give huge benefits but are open to all factions and are first come first serve. A sort of mini game inside the gam...
This could be the biggest game of 2018. I feel like it is a big step in gaming bringing a new gameplay mechanic and fresh ideas. The hype around this title is similar I feel to Mass Effect when it started getting reported in the gaming magazines back in 2007. It almost feels like the developers Quantic Dream have sat down and discussed how they can take the decision making trees in modern games to the next level. Let us take the deciosn making aspects of say a Bioware game and kick it up a thousand times. Make a game where decision making is the main aspect of gameplay. The manner in which every level or scene can play out in so many different ways and instead of waiting for your next playthrough to see if you can find a better option they figured out a way to redo your choices in real time as they are unfolding in the story.
