Holy 4X!

Endless Legends and Endless Space! I have played my fair share of both Grand Strategy and 4X strategy in particular. Everything from Civilization to Galactic Civilizations. It has been a genre that I have gotten a lot of miles from. Very fun to say the least. So it was with great anticipation that I bought Endless Space and Endless Legends. I have not regretted it for one minute. Absolutely not the most typical 4X experience. I am going to highlight the two biggest things the Endless games do better or differently than your average 4X. First thing is Quests. Not unheard of for 4X or Strategy games to have quests. Usually though they are more tutorial like than anything. Even when they expand further than that they usually are a tiny feature of the gameplay. Not in Endless. You get Faction specific quests as well as numerous other quest lines. Including Global quests that give huge benefits but are open to all factions and are first come first serve. A sort of mini game inside the gam...

Detroit! Becoming Human.

This could be the biggest game of 2018. I feel like it is a big step in gaming bringing a new gameplay mechanic and fresh ideas. The hype around this title is similar I feel to Mass Effect when it started getting reported in the gaming magazines back in 2007. It almost feels like the developers Quantic Dream have sat down and discussed how they can take the decision making trees in modern games to the next level. Let us take the deciosn making aspects of say a Bioware game and kick it up a thousand times. Make a game where decision making is the main aspect of gameplay. The manner in which every level or scene can play out in so many different ways and instead of waiting for your next playthrough to see if you can find a better option they figured out a way to redo your choices in real time as they are unfolding in the story. The game looks tense and well written. Graphically beautiful. I will be...

Game Reviews!?! Worth reading?

It should be pretty apparent at this point that by and large Mass Media Reviewers/Critics have huge problems. The problems are varied. They are paid to lie, they have a vendetta going into their review, they feel they can drive more traffic to their review if they nitpick the negatives and probably the biggest but least talked about is the reviewer either hates or doesn't understand the genre he is reviewing.                  Big Triple A official or professional reviews cannot be trusted. To often it becomes apparent that the reviewer is basically blowing smoke at us for the sake of keeping friendly with the games publishing company. Sometimes they are just outright paid for fluff pieces (allegedly). If the reviewer is mid to low range in popularity he/she is probably not going to bite the hand that feeds them. EA and other companies have shown thy will blacklist certain reviewers from review c...

Days Gone

Combining the styles of a great t.v. show and one of my favorite video games equal one of my most anticipated games coming soon. Sons of Anarchy is a show about The Outlaw Hero that can sometimes even play the Anti-Hero exhibiting every hard nosed rough trait that I sometimes wish I had. That summarizes the lead in the show. The rough a tumble Jax is basically a modern retelling of many Clint Eastwood cowboy characters.  Then you have the video game that Days Gone is clearly is taking some inspiration from in The Last of Us. The gameplay and storytelling look very similar to that title and that is a great thing.  The Zombies are re-envisioned it seems and done in a way not done in a Triple-A title that I have seen. That is in Fast moving herds. Think Dying Light but instead of 10 to 20 think hundreds if not...

Mass Effect Andromeda

I don't care what anyone says this is the best game I have ever played. Ok. Maybe just top three of the last couple of years. I personally love the story. The art is beautiful. The Sci-Fi aspects are truly a wonder. Truly feel like an away team. Solving the galaxies problems. From scanning the environment around you to set up bases and colonies. There is rarely a moment in which I don't feel like I am in a Sci-Fi book. The people in this game are fleshed out and interesting with a good variety. They do a good job of making you feel. The story has really well-written consequences. The combat is amazing. I love third person cover shooters and that is what this is with some flair. It does it very well. I have zero complaints so far. I can't wait to play in this new galaxy over the next two games.

Civilization 5! I WON!

Finally, I have beaten a playthrough of Civilization V. I have only been playing the series for close to a decade. Admittedly casually but still putting in maybe a couple hundred hours. Almost always I unchecked the victory conditions. I always found them restrictive. I enjoyed the idea of controlling my nation in a more natural realistic way. Addressing issues that come up differently each time to how I have seen fit and not in regards to a score or objective. I could feel free to roleplay my nation in crazy ways that would almost always result in a loss normally. Like spamming as many low-level melee troops as possible while I continue to send them in waves at my enemy. My favorite declaring war on every nation after having encircled my entire nation with troops without any gaps at all with reinforcements towards the center. Waiting to plug any holes in the circle as they appear. However this time I turned on all the victory conditions and decided which type of victory I woul...

No Man's Sky is only 11 days away.

They have been releasing some interesting trailers showcasing the different aspects of the game. Trading, Surviving, fighting and exploring. Still even though I am beyond excited I have learned from Watchdogs, Destiny and The Division releases that no matter how excited I am I need to wait for the reviews to come in. Days of day one buying are over for me. With the exception of Madden since I know what I am getting in that package. So I am hoping this is the big game of the year for me. But I also felt the same way about the games I just listed. So we should all go in with eyes wide open. Never the less I am still very excited and can't wait to read the reviews. I will post a whole set of them here when they are posted on my various favorite sites. Survive Explore Trade Fight
